Tea Harvesting Timeline (seasonality in tea)

Tea quality and taste depends not only on tea region, right brewing method, but also on season of growing and harvesting.

Different seasons give different tea taste and also depends on weather conditions during certain season certain year (temperature, rains frequency), tea taste could also vary.

Double ten day

10th of October is Taiwan’s National Day, also known as Double 10 Day.

The 10th of October or «Double Tenth Day» is a main national holiday in Taiwan. This day is considered the foundation day of the first Republic of China.

10 (ten) is written as 十, and this gives this sign to the holiday.

Fu Shou Shan (Fushoushan)

Fu Shou Shan (Fushoushan) (福壽山) is a mountain located in Heping District, Taichung City at an altitude of 1,800-2,580 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains. It spreads over an area of 800 hectares. The farm was originally established on 1 June 1957 when 100 Republic of China Armed Forces veterans were sent by Veterans Affairs Council to develop the area into an agricultural site. It was originally named "Li Shan Veterans Farm".

The Life Cycle of a Tea Tree

The tea tree, Camellia sinensis, undergoes an extraordinary life cycle, divided into several key stages. We would like to share insights into each of these stages, starting with the moment a seedling first sprouts from a seed, and concluding with the stage of old age, when the tree can still continue to yield tea leaves for decades, and how this impacts the final quality of the tea.

Blooming tea

Flowering tea or blooming tea is a special kind of tea. In the dry form, it looks like a tight ball. This ball is hand-made from dried tea leaves twisted around one or several dried flowers.

Why the Taiwanese Oolong is so expensive?

We get a lot of questions, where people ask: What is the difference between oolongs from Taiwan and China? Why Taiwan tea is more expensive compare with tea from China?

First of all look on the map of that part of the world and compare China Mainland and Taiwan.

Authentic Taste of Milk Oolong from Taiwan

Sometimes we get questions from our customers why Taiwanese milk oolong is not as “milky” as the tea they used to buy.

To answer this question, let's consider the technologies by which milk oolong can be produced in the order of "legitimacy" to be called true milk oolong.

Why do we need to wash tea?

Why are first tea leaves merge from tea? In the dictionary, merge of the first tea leaves is called washing tea. In Chinese, there is the phrase "si cha", which explains as washing, which removes impurities from tea, to fully open the flavor. So why we need to wash tea?

Leaf structure in tea

The ideal leaf structure for hand-picked tea is 2-3 leaves, a bud and a stem. When tea is harvested by hand, farmers can choose the ideal part of the plant that is most suitable for high-quality brewing, and usually these are the new growth of the tea bush (2-3 leaves, bud and stem).

Cingjing Farm (Qingjing Farm)

The Cingjing Veterans Farm (Qingjing Veterans Farm / 清境農場) is located near Renai Township of Nantou County. It has been opened to public since February, 1961. Farm is located at level 1750 meters above the sea.

Taitung County (臺東縣)

Taitung county (臺東縣) is the third largest county in Taiwan, located on the island's southeastern coast with the Pacific on its eastern border and the Central Mountain Range on the western. It has an area of 3515 kilometers, one tenth of Taiwan's area, and has a population of around 240000. Taitung county is a home of the “low attitude champion” Fulu Oolong Tea.
